Born in Pingtung, Taiwan, in 1981, Chiu Chien-Jen graduated in 2009 from the Graduate Institute of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts, specializing in oil painting. In 2004, he received the First Prize of the Taipei Arts Award, followed by the Excellence in Fine Arts Creation Award in 2005. In 2017, he received the Lee Chun-Shan Foundation Visual Art Award for his work Through Silence.

Working primarily in painting, Chiu explores the influence of images on the lives of contemporary younger generations. He is known for capturing scenes from everyday life and transforming images, memory, and personal perception into a narrative visual language. His works have been exhibited in Shanghai, Paris, Japan, Singapore, and elsewhere.

Selected solo exhibitions include Life Goes On! at Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 2007; Legend of Shadows at Ping Pong Art Station, Taipei, in 2009; There Is No There There at Lin & Lin Gallery, Taipei, in 2013; Once I Gaze At at Lin & Lin Gallery, Taipei, in 2016; and Superposition at PiaoPiao Gallery, Taipei, in 2020. Selected group exhibitions include Weak Painting at Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, in 2009; Post Youth at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, in 2010; and the 2022 Taiwan Art Biennial at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, in 2022.
