+ OVERVIEW
Brush rest has been one of the oldest scholar objects in history, most commonly found in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Bronze brush rests are rare as the material was restricted due to the production of coins and its symbolization of fortune. The bronze of this brush rest is brownish purple with a heavy weight. High quality brand was chosen and was casted into the shape of four rugged mountains. A beast at the center looks afar. Its hair raised on the back and on the tail, as it hopped in delight. Its animated character is vividly depicted. The rugged relief of layers of mountains and the beast suggest the scene of utopia. A well-planned structure highlighted with lingzhi, it carries the aura of antiquity. From the selection of bronze material to its composition and structure, this piece is a refined piece of scholarly object and a decorative piece for the studio.
