+ OVERVIEW
Tomoyoshi Sakamoto was born in Tochigi, Japan in 1985, and she graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts Department of Design in 2008. In 2009, Sakamoto won the 12th Liquitex Biennale Encouragement Award. She belongs to the new generation of expressionism artists after “OTAKU Art”, combining Tokyo’s sweet girls and feminine objects or scenes to form a new impression for her works. The artist not only depicts cute girls but also demonstrates vivid expressions of characters and includes Japanese subculture sarcastically. In the 2017 touring exhibition in Japan, “The Doraemon Exhibition”, Sakamoto became one of the most popular artists by displaying her artwork “Huge Shizuka”. Other than her rich experience in hosting solo exhibitions and joining art fairs, Sakamoto’s artwork was also collected by Takasaki Art Museum, Gunma.
