Pu Hsinyu, also known as Pu Ru, was the grandson of Daoguang Emperor of Qing dynasty. At an early age, Pu practised calligraphy with imperial teachers and studied ancient masterpieces. With a strong conviction of "Poem being the most important, followed by calligraphy and paintings", Pu was regarded as one of the few all-rounded scholarly painters in modern Chinese art history.
