KUNG Te-cheng was the 77th direct-line descendant of Confucius. He was a master of traditional Chinese studies in the early Republic of China, as well as a calligrapher and poet, highly skilled in the study of oracle bones and bronze inscriptions. In his youth, he studied calligraphy under a former Qing dynasty Hanlin scholar, starting with the Yan style, developing a calligraphy style characterized by solidity, stability, and strength. After relocating to Taiwan, he held important political and governmental positions and taught for many years at educational institutions. Throughout his life, he devoted himself to promoting Confucian culture both domestically and internationally.
