Kasing Lung, born in 1972 in Hong Kong, is a Belgian-based illustrator and toy designer. He spent his childhood in the Netherlands after moving with his parents, where he was deeply influenced by Nordic mythology and folklore. These elements have become a central source of inspiration for his work. Kasing Lung’s artistic style blends playful, whimsical imagery with observations of everyday life, creating a fantastical world that also reflects adult themes.
He began his professional career as an illustrator, earning awards in Belgium and becoming the first Chinese artist to receive a Belgian illustration prize. From 2010 onward, he shifted his focus to toy design and, in 2011, began collaborating with Hong Kong toy brand How2work. In 2015, he launched the illustrated book series The Monsters and transformed its characters into designer toys. The most iconic character, Labubu—a smiling elf with rabbit ears—quickly gained global popularity, earning him the title of “Father of Labubu.”
In 2019, Kasing Lung signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Chinese designer toy company Pop Mart, further expanding Labubu’s international reach. In recent years, he has devoted more time to painting, holding multiple successful solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and other cities, with his works achieving notable success in the auction market. Kasing Lung currently lives and works between Hong Kong and Belgium.
