Born in Clusone, in the Province of Bergamo, Italy, in 1956, Luigi Benzoni has lived and worked in Venice since 1976. He studied architecture in Venice, specializing in art history. His artistic practice encompasses painting, sculpture, glass, and ceramics, incorporating materials including bronze, stone, Murano glass, gold leaf, and paint.

Benzoni’s pictorial and sculptural practice centres on the human face, or Volto. Following an early period of abstraction, he developed increasingly distilled and rigorous facial forms, exploring a balance between figuration and abstraction through highly simplified lines and forms. His glass heads incorporate Murano glass and gold leaf, conveying a contemplative, solemn, and spiritual quality while reflecting his sustained exploration of form, surface, light, and space.

Benzoni has exhibited at public and private institutions in Italy and internationally since 1974. Selected exhibitions include The Secret of Murano at Het Paleis Museum, The Hague (1997); A Choice of European Glass Artists at Mostly Glass, New York (1998); Made in Murano—Making Art with Glass at Hotel Cipriani, Venice (1999); Internationell Samtidskonst i Glas in Halmstad, Sweden, and Made in Venice at the Röhsska Museum for Design and Applied Art, Gothenburg (1999); and Innuendo at Palazzo delle Prigioni, Venice. He also participated in the 11th Biennial of Sacred Art in Isola del Gran Sasso d’Italia, Abruzzo (2004), the 2nd Beijing International Art Biennale (2005), and FACING 1200 °C at the Museum Moderner Kunst Kärnten, Klagenfurt (2006).

Benzoni has also participated in international art fairs including Art Miami, ST-ART Strasbourg, and Art Verona, and has maintained a longstanding association with Berengo Fine Arts in Venice. His works are held in public and private collections and continue to be exhibited internationally.
