Born in Chiayi, Taiwan, in 1966, Xavier Wei graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Tunghai University in 1989. He moved to France in 1991 and graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1995, receiving the Diplôme National Supérieur d’Arts Plastiques (DNSAP) with the congratulations of the jury. He currently lives and works in Paris.

Wei works primarily in painting while also exploring drawing, printmaking, collage, and photography. His practice has long focused on the human figure, body, and face. Through expressive brushwork, blurred forms, and vivid colour, he explores individual perception, emotional states, and interpersonal relationships. Since the 1990s, his works have been exhibited in Taiwan, France, and across Europe.

Wei received the congratulations of the jury upon graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1995 and received an artistic merit distinction at the Arte Viva 96 festival in Senigallia, Italy, in 1996. In 2008, his work was acquired by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
