JIN Xin-lan, courtesy name Xinlan was a key figure in the Suzhou painting circle. He excelled in landscape and flower painting, and was especially accomplished in painting plum blossoms. The plum blossoms in his works are austere, refined, and slender in character. In his later years he fell ill and lost his sight, but later recovered it; his ink technique was highly accomplished.
